Gallery North — In SitU - Wet Paint Festival Exhibition

I am honored to announce that Wet Paint Festival #1 and Wet Paint Festival #2 have been selected for inclusion in Gallery North’s Wet Paint Festival Exhibition, bringing together artists who participated in the festival’s plein air weekend on June 7–8, 2026.

For me, painting directly from the landscape is both an observational practice and a form of sustained encounter. Working en plein air requires an attentiveness to the continual transformation of light, atmosphere, color, and spatial relationships and conditions that resist permanence and invite a responsive, intuitive approach to the painted surface. The process becomes a dialogue between what is observed and what is ultimately translated through paint.

The two works presented in this exhibition emerged from this direct engagement with place. Rather than seeking a purely literal transcription of the landscape, I am interested in the ways perception is filtered through memory, sensation, and the material language of painting. Each work becomes, in this sense, a record of a particular moment and an intersection of observation and interpretation in which the landscape is experienced as both subject and evolving visual experience.

It is a privilege to have these paintings included in an exhibition with fellow artists who participated in the Wet Paint Festival. Together, the works offer a compelling breadth of approaches to plein air practice while affirming the enduring relevance of painting from direct observation.
